Now that we officially have a new First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), I wanted to learn more about her. Being of Eastern European descent myself, I found some aspects of her background interesting and worth sharing. So here are 5 things I didn’t know about her, that I thought were pretty cool:
She isn’t the first First Lady to be a model, both Pat Nixon and Betty Ford were models before entering the White House. Melania started modeling at age 16 and has since then graced the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, GQ and Sports Illustrated (she did also pose nude for a French magazine that has since closed down. But all I have to say about racy French fashion editorials is: Carine Roitfeld).
She grew up in communist Yugoslavia and speaks six languages: Slovenian, Serbian, English, French, Italian and German.
Bill and Hillary Clinton both attended the Trump wedding as guests in 2005. (Ivanka and Chelsea are actually very close friends.)
She may be privileged, but she still works hard. She graduated with a degree in design and architecture from University in Slovenia, made a living modelling and went on to launch a successful jewelry and skincare line on QVC.
She looks up to Jackie Kennedy. Not only does she seem to give off that very same enchantress vibe, but she stated in an interview to the New York Times that she would channel Betty Ford and Jackie Kennedy for a very traditional image if she ever became FLOTUS.
