Sometimes you simply get a craving. One day you want something sweet, another day it’s all about the salt, then there are times you need a little crunch or gooey chocolatey goodness. This is for that ‘gotta have a starburst’ type chewy, fruity craving. You can make these with literally any fruit that you have in your kitchen—from blackberries to mangoes to apples and pears. The hardest part about making these will be waiting so darn long for them to dehydrate in your oven. But it will be so worth it, I promise. Without further ado…
Homemade Fruit Roll Ups
2 cups of your favorite fruit
Optional: 3-4 dates OR 1-2 tbsp. of raw honey
Preheat your oven to 120°F (if your oven has a dehydrate setting, just use that).
If your fruit is hard (like an apple or a peach) you may want to parboil it for a few minutes to soften it a bit. This is not necessary, but most times it also enhances sweetness so consider it a double bonus.
Purée your fruit (and honey or dates, if you are using) in a blender or food processor until smooth. Pour it onto a baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper, keeping it relatively thin (about 1/8″ thick). Smooth out the top and bake for about 8-10 hours. I usually leave it in overnight. You will know it is done if when you touch it, it does not stick to your finger and it has the firmness of fruit leather. Exact timing varies based on how thick you pour the purée. (Just don’t keep cooking it past the firm-to-touch stage or it will get crispy).
Peel off of the parchment paper, roll and enjoy!
